How it works

Downloading should be
something you control.

Capture, confirm, queue: three steps that turn scattered browser downloads into one clear list.

  1. 01

    Confirm before it starts

When the browser starts a download, BenLiu shows the filename, destination and category first.

  2. 02

    A queue you control

Pause, resume, retry, speed limits and per-category folders all live in the desktop app.

  3. 03

    Video handled separately

Video pages are resolved through yt-dlp. Regular files go through the native C++ engine with multiple connections.

Inside the engine

Not just more threads: the connection count follows measured throughput.

It starts at 16 connections, adds more only while speed keeps rising, and steps back down when it drops. Both happen inside the native C++ engine.

Browser capture

Browser downloads
stop at a confirm dialog.

Check the filename, destination, category and connection count before the download starts. A site you keep declining can go on the exclusion list in one click. Safari can send links and media manually but cannot capture downloads automatically.

Video sites

Video goes to yt-dlp,
files go to the C++ engine.

Video sites do not always report a real file size. BenLiu reads the media metadata to estimate progress and keeps it updated while downloading, instead of sitting at "unknown size". Please only save content you have the right to keep.

Notarized by Apple

BenLiu is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized, so macOS opens it without the "unidentified developer" warning.

  1. Download the installer for your machine above.
  2. Open the .dmg and drag BenLiu into Applications.
  3. Launch it from Launchpad. It runs for 30 days without an account.

The macOS build is for Apple silicon only (Macs from late 2020 on with an M-series chip). The Windows installer is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen shows a warning the first time you run it.
