What to include in a report
- The BenLiu version, and whether it came from the website or the Mac App Store.
- Your macOS or other operating system version, and the Mac chip model.
- The steps that reproduce the problem and any error shown in the interface.
- If it concerns a specific download address, a public test link helps. Remove cookies, tokens, private keys and personal information first.
Do not email passwords, payment credentials, browser cookies, one-time download links or other sensitive
data.
Frequently asked questions
The Mac App Store edition asks me to choose a download location first
On first launch, open Settings → Basics → Download location, click Browse…, and grant access to a
folder visible in Finder through the macOS folder picker. BenLiu does not save your downloads into a
hidden app container.
The browser extension cannot connect to the desktop app
Make sure BenLiu is running. The extension sends download requests only to the local loopback address
127.0.0.1:21176 and never uploads them to BenLiu servers. A firewall or a port conflict can
block the connection. The extension works with the website edition only.
A download fails after the task is created
Check that the link still works and opens directly in a browser, and that the download folder is
writable. Sites that require sign-in may depend on a valid session or a temporary link.
How do I update the Mac App Store edition?
The Mac App Store edition has no in-app update check or installer. New versions are announced and
installed by the App Store. The website edition and the store edition update through separate channels.
What each edition includes
The Mac App Store edition supports regular HTTP/HTTPS file downloads, the queue, pause and resume, speed
limits and categories. It does not include the browser extension, video site resolution, third-party
downloaders, serial number activation or in-app updates. For the website edition, see the
home page.
For local task records, browser extension data and network requests, see the
privacy policy.
